Our Annual General Meeting was supposed to take place on 11 April 2022 at the Dutch Reformed Church Windhoek-West. All arrangements were in place; however, the members in attendance did not form a quorum. The Cambridge dictionary defines a quorum as the smallest number of people needed to be present at a meeting before it can officially begin and before official decisions can be taken (Cambridge University Press 2022).
According to the revised Constitution & Bylaws of the Bible Society of Namibia, a quorum consists of 5% of the BSN members which represents 18 members, and this was not the case at the AGM; only 15 members were in attendance. Due to low attendance to form a quorum, the AGM was rescheduled to 12 May 2022, at the Bible Society of Namibia’s offices and via zoom.
On 12 May 2022, the Annual General meeting had more attendees, which formed a quorum. The meeting proceeded with an opening prayer by the chairperson, who welcomed the attendees.
After all formalities, and the annual report, the Bible Society of Namibia’s CEO, Dr. Schalk Botha, was given an opportunity to give service acknowledgments. The meeting appreciated Mr. Leslie Puriza, who retired as a board member, and a study Bible was handed over to him with words of appreciation by the CEO.
At the meeting, (4) re-electable Board Members were appreciated for serving their 1st term of 3 years. Long Service Awards were given to acknowledge the Bible Society of Namibia’s staff members for working for 5 and 10 years. The meeting was closed with a prayer and words of appreciation by Mrs. Kauna Nghisheefa.
